One of our wildlife cameras catches Blue Tits starting a nest
A wildlife camera (purchased through Defra’s Access for All fund) has captured a lovely glimpse of two Blue Tits beginning work on their nest. These small but lively birds are a familiar sight across much of the UK, found in woodlands, hedgerows, parks and gardens year round.
Blue Tits are especially vocal during spring and summer, when they sing to defend their territory and attract a mate. They’re also known for laying impressively large clutches (with up to 16 eggs!) carefully timed to coincide with the emergence of caterpillars, ensuring plenty of food for hungry chicks. The female does most of the nest building, often choosing spots close to trees to make feeding easier once the chicks hatch.
Thanks to the Access for All fund, we’re able to share moments like this, bringing local wildlife closer and allowing more people to enjoy and connect with the natural world.
